And at that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father,
Lord of heaven and earth, because
thou hast hid these things from
the wise and prudent, and hast
revealed them unto babes. Matthew 11:25
I
love Jesus’ attitude here and throughout His ministry. If I didn’t see the
frustration when the disciples and others don’t understand Him I wouldn’t
appreciate this verse as much. I can almost hear sigh of relief as He
triumphantly declares, ‘Finally they get
it. Thank You God!’
But it isn’t so much that the message is
received but who receives it. Jesus had just finished rebuking the unrepentant
cities. These were cities He had done miracles in but they did not repent. It’s
no secret that though the Pharisees and Sadducees were learned, wise men they
were not above the reproach of Christ. It amazes me that He doesn’t just wash
His holy Hands of them. Here though we see Him thanking God publically for the
revelation to those who are childlike: that is humble and open to receiving the
truth.
He goes on to say that those who know
Him only know Him by revelation of His choosing. We know He chose His disciples
and though they didn’t always understand His teaching when they got it, He was pleased.
He also knows that His Father was pleased with the opening of the eyes of His
children. They were seeing as we do now, by faith. It’s a different kind of
sight. It’s a blessed kind of sight that only God can give. No optometrist or
special glasses can help you see. Your understanding comes through prayer and
the working of the spirit.
Be open to truth so you can imagine
Jesus saying: Thank You Father, because your child gets it.
