And he said, So is the kingdom of
God,
as if a man should cast seed into the
ground;
and should sleep, and rise night and
day,
and the seed should spring and grow
up, he knoweth not how. Mark 4:26-27
Different plants have different size
seeds. They grow best in certain climates. They require certain soil
conditions. If I were a farmer I would prepare my soil following the advice of
other wiser farmers. I would plant the
seeds, not in relevance to their current size but in what they are to
become.
There is a lot that happens in secret,
underground. Yet the farmer doesn’t need to know that. He needs to know how to
cultivate the ground and when to harvest. I believe he is also to keep the
wonder and amazement of the very first time he planted a seed and later enjoyed
watermelon at a picnic by the lake.
Heaven is a wonderful Place to look
forward to. There is much we still do not know. We must simply do what we know
to do. If we know our specific task on earth, besides the duty of every
Christian to witness and glorify God, then we are to be about it. I can see
myself as a farmer who spends all her time Googling farming methods that I miss
planting season. Rather than spend time trying to unlock the mysteries of
Heaven we need to be preparing others for it. Plant seeds, water and faithfully
watch for the harvest for we know not what day He comes.
The inner workings of a man’s heart are
mysterious. If we spend all our time trying to figure out the best angle to
reach him we’ll end up like a pretzel. Today is the day for planting seeds.
