Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said,
Now is the Son of man glorified, and
God is glorified in him. John 13:31
The Last Supper is over. The betrayer has
been revealed and Jesus and the disciples are perhaps out taking an after-dinner stroll. After all, a good walk after a meal aids in digestion. I don’t
know if anything could help them digest the bread shared with Judas Iscariot.
Jesus sees the plan unfolding before Him
and He sees the glory in the plan. In fact He sees that both He and His Father
are glorified. They are both to be praised for sticking to the plan. It hasn’t
been a garden of roses so far. He’s been rejected, disrespected, and called a
blasphemer and it’s about to get worse. Sweating blood worse.
Yet He didn’t back down. He rose to every
challenge, including the challenge to stay the course though there was a huge
ice berg called Calvary ahead of Him. You would think He would save this
statement for after the resurrection. A quick perusal of the gospels doesn’t
reveal such a statement. He said, “It is finished.” with
His last breath on the cross which has greater implications when you study the
original language but no talk of God being glorified in Him.
After His resurrection He spoke peace to
the women who came to prepare His body for burial and wept because they thought
His body had been stolen. He spoke peace to His disciples, taught Thomas a
lesson about trust and gave instruction for their duties (and ours) until His
return.
In Him glory dwells. Through Him glory is
given. Go. Stay the course. Glorify Him: the one Who sent you, has gone before
you, and goes with you giving you peace.
