And I have declared unto them thy
name,
and will declare it: that the love
wherewith thou hast loved me
may be in them, and I in them. John
17:26
Jesus knew the work portion of His
mission was over. In this prayer He runs down all He did through God’s power.
He prays for those who have been saved that they will remain in the faith. He
prays for His disciples and for those who will be saved through them.
Essentially He prayed for me.
The sacrifice portion of His mission was
yet to come and He prayed for me. I am deeply moved. Jesus knew what was coming
next. I am not only moved that He was willing to fulfill this brutal portion of
Salvation’s plan but that He’d think of me. That has to be the God side of this
God-man who came as a helpless infant into a cold world just so we could one
day be restored to fellowship with our Creator.
Declare: according to Webster is an
emphatic affirmation. It is a full statement of the facts. Through the words of
Christ we know fully Who God is. Perhaps that is not what we expected. Perhaps
He still seems mysterious but He does need to be. He wants us to know Him fully
by knowing His Son. We know His Son by reading The Word, both Old and New
Testament. We know His Son through the revelation of the Spirit. We know His
Son through prayer which is not only speaking but listening.
The message is clear. Jesus did all He
could do. All that was left was Calvary.
It is up to us who are walking in faith to pray for those yet to come.
To declare His mighty love and saving Grace.
