Not every one that saith unto me,
Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven;
but he that doeth the will of my
Father which is in heaven. Matthew 7:21
I remember a Brady Bunch episode where Greg
rescues Bobby who vows his undying gratitude. Bobby can’t thank his big brother
enough for saving him. He’s willing to do anything Greg wants. Of course being
a sit-com it couldn’t stop there. Bobby became a pest and Greg had to pretend
to be in trouble so Bobby could save him and make them even.
What would happen if you went to your job
every day, acknowledged Mr. Jones as your boss, but then didn’t do your job?
You wouldn’t be greeting Mr. Jones on a daily basis much longer. Now what would
happen if you did everything your boss expected even if you didn’t get the
chance to greet him every day? You’d be considered a valued employee who can
work without the boss breathing down your neck.
The best boss-employee relationship is
one where the two are in constant contact. This limits the chances of an
employee misunderstanding the instructions and messing up because the boss isn’t
available for clarification. But sometimes it’s unavoidable that a boss has to
be away and the employee is left instructions. The employee who will receive
the keys to the executive washroom is the one who does what he is told weather
he can see his boss that day or not.
The Lord has left us for a time. When He
returns, will He find we have done what we were told? Did we just call Him Lord
or did we enslave ourselves to Him out of gratitude?
We cannot just call Him Lord and Savior.
We must live like we’ve been saved.
