Are not two sparrows sold for a
farthing? and one of them shall not fall
to the ground without your Father.
But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more
value than many sparrows. Matthew 10:29-31
Two sparrows for a penny: pretty good
bargain. They may seem to be sold cheap but it says one could not fall without
the Father knowing. That’s caring. He cares so deeply that as He caressed your
head as it was being formed in the womb He counted the number of hairs that
would eventually grow from your bald little head.
Many things were sold by weight.
Whichever side of the scale comes up heaviest is worth more. Sparrows are
beautiful. They sing pretty and fly gracefully. They were made by the creator
just like you but you are worth more. When you aren’t feeling beautiful: you
are worth more. When your singing voice is horse and sore, or even if you don’t
have one: you are worth more. When your wings have been clipped and you can’t
fly: you are worth more.
Since you are worth more than many
sparrows and even one can’t fall unnoticed, your Father is mindful of
everything that is going on in your life. You are worth more. We have a
heavenly Father who cares about the details, including the ever changing number
of hairs on our head. The only thing that doesn’t change is how deeply He cares
for you.
What if it said you are worth more than
100 sparrows? We could do the math and know they are worth 50 cents. But many
is an unknown here because only God can know our worth.
You are worth more than many precious
birds formed in His Hand.
