"Come let us return to the LORD.
He has torn us to pieces but he will heal us;
he has injured us but he will bind up our wounds." (Hosea 6:1)

Last week my son decided to clean the crawl space under our manufactured home. There were leftover materials from a project done, who knows when. Apparently, the crawl space had smaller access doors which were found discarded. My son also found some siding trim pieces. Further investigation by me revealed they had been through some sort of storm. One piece had a broken edge and duck tape wrapped around the middle. Another piece had duck tape just one the edge like it had been taped to other siding. There was a tornado that went through town so, maybe they were damaged then. I don't know. What I do know is, contrary to popular belief, duck tape doesn't fix everything.
What about people? When we endure the storms of life and end up damaged, do we try to fix ourselves? The self-help section at the bookstore would indicate that we try. However, the wiser choice would be to go to God. The verse from Hosea could be read as blaming God for our troubles, but it is acknowledging that His Hand is in everything. He is in control. The Source of the storm is also the One Who calms the storm. And He can bind up our wounds better than duck tape.
