Which when Jesus perceived, he said unto them,
O ye of little faith, why reason ye
among yourselves,
because ye have brought no bread? Matthew
16:8
It wasn’t about the bread. With Jesus it
isn’t usually about the object in the object lesson. What I think He’s saying here is, Why ask each other if you don’t get it? Ask
me.
He’s also asking why they don’t know yet
that it’s not about the bread. It’s never about the bread. When it has seemed
to be about the bread in the past, it was about faith. This time it’s a warning
against the teaching (yeast) of the Sadducees and Pharisees.
We haven’t changed much since Jesus’ time.
We still reason among ourselves. We read books about the Bible for
understanding when we should be reading The Word and consulting The
Author. Books are fine as an addition to
Bible study but not as a substitute.
Yeast is one of those
little-goes-a-long-way products. There are still Sadducees and Pharisees among
us. They have different names now but anyone who has teaching that goes against
God’s principles and Character has been taught at their feet. You may hear just
a bit of their teaching and it may sound good but be warned. When it comes to
false teaching it only takes a little to lead you the wrong way. The Bible is
the Living Word. Jesus voice still speaks to us warning us against reasoning
amongst ourselves. It is okay to reason together but only if the reasoning is
based on sound biblical doctrine.
So when you get into discussions I hope
you hear Him say, Why reason among
yourselves when you can include me in the discussion? I am here. You don’t have
to come up with the answers by yourselves.
